NCUB board member receives CBE

Julia Buckingham CBEBrunel University London’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Julia Buckingham has been made a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list, released on Saturday June 9th.

Professor Buckingham has been honoured for services to biology and education, in recognition of her distinguished career as a pharmacologist and academic leader.

She is a Fellow of four Learned Societies, including the Royal Society of Biology, of which she was a founding trustee until last year. She holds a DSc from the University of London and has been awarded the Society for Endocrinology Medal; British Pharmacological Society Gaddum Memorial Prize; and AstraZeneca, Women in Pharmacology prize. She sits on the board of the National Centre or Universities and Business.

Commenting on the news, NCUB CEO David Docherty said: “Julia Buckingham has been a powerful voice for stronger business-university collaboration without ever losing sight of the need to serve students and provide the highest quality education. Her award is thoroughly deserved.”

And Professor Buckingham wasn’t the only NCUB member honoured over the weekend. Leaders council members Professor Christopher Roy Husbands , Vice Chancellor, Sheffield Hallam University, was awarded a knighthood for services to Higher Education and David Eyton, Group Head of Technology, BP plc, was made CBE for services to Engineering and Energy.
