For businesses, charities and individuals it opens the treasury of research, researchers and services in UK universities and research institutions. For academics, konfer is a way to search for impact and funding partners, or just to share the sheer joy of knowledge.
The idea is simple. It’s Google meets LinkedIn for university collaboration. You search for what you want – an expert, a paper, a piece of equipment, a business or charity partner and email the person via konfer. Or you can post collaboration requests, find funding, or find out more via the web, twitter, or YouTube. And the amazing thing is that it updates every single day.
konfer was created by the National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB) to make this astonishing wealth of expertise and resources accessible. Working in partnership with the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and Research Councils UK (RCUK), konfer brings knowledge and growth to businesses, valuable exposure for university talent, and future strength for the UK economy.
“konfer is a unique innovation tool opening up research, researchers and services in UK universities to businesses and other organisations looking for new ideas and collaborations. It will be helpful in translating the brilliant research within our universities into jobs, growth and innovation to support the economy.”
Professor Sir Mark Walport
“konfer promotes stronger commercialisation, business and policy links and wider societal engagement with publicly funded research. It opens out what universities and research institutes do to a wider audience and I’m delighted to see it reaching full launch stage following development work with universities and businesses of all sizes.”
David Sweeney, Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange at HEFCE and Executive
Chair Designate of Research England
How it works
The tool konfer will facilitate a step change in the ease with which business-university collaborations can be enabled. It will do this by bringing together data from a targeted range of websites as well as pulling information directly from university websites and databases, applying the latest data analytics tools and techniques.
Whatever your business needs from a university, you can find it with konfer
UK universities are bursting with innovation. From Aberdeen to Plymouth and Aberystwyth to Exeter, world-class academics are keen to collaborate with industry, charities and the public sector.
When a business owner spots an opportunity, konfer supports the journey from finding a research partner and funding to planning and co-creation. It does this by giving direct access to:
- 119,000+ academics

- 1.5m web pages
- 62,000+ YouTube videos from university channels
- 200,000+ news, funding and events opportunities from curated feeds
