The National Centre for Universities and Business helps to publicise events and opportunities from our funders, partners and members to our network.

SEPnet Summer Placements 2018

Do you have a project/work experience for a physics undergraduate or PhD?

SEPnet (South East Physics Network) is a consortium of 9 universities. Our annual placement scheme for physics undergraduates and PhDs offers 8-week projects in industry or research in areas such as data analysis, mathematical modelling, programming, product design and testing or science communication.

Who can offer a placement?

Any organisations interested in recruiting physics graduates, or who can offer valuable business experience, including large companies, SMEs, start-ups, research institutions, charities and NGOs.

Benefits to employers

  • Early access to bright, numerate students with excellent problem-solving and IT skills
  • Carry out projects you would not normally have time for
  • A fresh perspective on your business challenges
  • Create a diverse workforce (30-40% of placement students are female)
  • All advertising, administration and placement support handled by SEPnet
  • Some funding for SMEs
  • Submit 2 projects and SEPnet will fund the 2nd one.

Connecting our Business Community

The University of Hertfordshire is hosting an exhibition celebrating the business community in Hertfordshire. This is an excellent chance to rediscover what the University of Hertfordshire can offer the business community, from start-up and micro companies, to small and medium growth innovations, to larger and corporate organisations. During the evening a keynote address will be given by Will Hobhouse, businessman and the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire. The exhibition will include the University's incubator scheme, student enterprise, the work we are doing with degree apprenticeships and much more:
